Television - Let me clarify
OK, I know I said in a previous blog entry that "We are trying our best to keep our son away from the television for as long as possible." Let me clarify. I was exaggerating a little. Or perhaps I figured 'as long as possible' wouldn't be very long! Really, I was referring to my child's early years. The article/study I mentioned in my original post on this topic said, "Christakis found that for every hour of television toddlers watch, their risk of attention problems goes up 10 per cent by the time they're seven years old. If toddlers watch two hours a day, the risk of attention problems climbs 20 per cent – and so on." He recommended no television for children under the age of 2.
Another article I read said something about television changing the brains of children up to the age of 8. SO, the real plan is to avoid television for the first couple of years as much as possible, then, put limits on television time (which would only include the eductional style of programming) when Jonah is older. After all, I grew up watching some television and I like to think I turned out pretty normal... actually, I would LIKE to think I turned out above average... tee hee...
