My 3-year old!
I just said goodnight to my 2-year-old for the last time. Not to fear, he's not dead or anything. It's just that he'll be my 3-year-old tomorrow! And of course, I just can't believe it! Glenn and I are so proud of the little boy he has become and we love him dearly.
There aren't as many fun little milestones to share as there once were so I'll just share a few little conversations/anecdotes I've saved over the last couple of weeks.
Jonah has always been a big fan of honey, although apricot jam tends to be his preference now. He recently has been VERY scared of bees so we picked up some library books about honeybees. We've been learning a lot of interesting things about queen bees, drones, workers, etc and learning all the facts of their life cycle, etc. But the other night Jonah stopped half way through the story and asked, "But how do bees make apricot jam?"
Jonah has done pretty well in the manners department, and will even say "excuse me, ladies" after expelling both forms of gas. But we still need to teach him tact. Aunt Tracy worked hard cooking up a seriously nice meal last weekend and as we sat down to eat, Jonah told her she should have cooked pasta! [Note: He still ate all of the food she cooked though!]
Last night Jonah was super tired at bedtime (because he didn't nap in the day) but he ended up picking a very long classic Pooh story with very few pictures and plenty of words. He barely made it through. The story was about how Pooh, Piglet, and Rabbit first didn't want Kanga & Roo in the forest. Anyway, as I put him in bed he said, "Instead of saying pouch they said pocket. Why did they call it a pocket?" I didn't even know Jonah knew that Kangaroos had pouches in the first place!
Today I let Jonah "drive" our car in the driveway (a Sunday post-church routine). He wanted me to put the seatbelt on him. Here's how it went. "[In a serious voice] I need the seatbelt on so I can be safe." "[Excitedly] THANKS MOMMY!" "[Back to serious voice] I need the seatbelt off cuz I'm pretend driving."
Jonah didn't nap again today and I always find those days challenging because he just gets kinda crazy, speaks in an even higher pitch of voice (if that's possible), says a lot more, and his body moves a lot more, is more fidgety, etc. I guess he also loses some "good judgement" too. This afternoon he stood on the arm of the love seat, and before I could get to him in time, he attempted to jump on top of Miles who was sitting on the nearby couch. Jonah then fell off of Miles, hit his head on a table (not too badly though) and landed on the floor. He wasn't really too shaken up about it, and Miles didn't even seem to notice. My heart was racing of course.
Last week Glenn took Jonah for a bike ride and they ended up at the cemetary. Jonah absolutely LOVED it there and he got to "meet" quite a few relatives. He seemed pleased to know that their bones were under him! Jonah also thought it would be a nice idea if they put "Mommy" on a headstone when I die! Glenn suggested that putting my name, Sherri Lavender, on it would be a better idea! OH MY! One interesting thing that happened was when he was looking at Poppa Lavender's headstone. He managed to see the world "END" in "LAVENDER." We didn't even know Jonah knew how to read that word!
Jonah seems to be able to read a few words and pick them out of text... They include
-Jonah
-stop
-up
-zoo
Not sure if there are any others.
Today when Jonah and I were talking about how old Grandpa French is (93 I think, and he was here for lunch), Jonah asked if Grandpa French, since he is so old, is already in heaven. We still have some explaining to do! Oh, and Grandma, after I listed off several age options, Jonah guessed you were in your 70s! Give the poor little guy some mercy though, he obviously doesn't know what he's talking about!
We'll be celebrating Jonah's birthday next weekend. It should be an EXCITING party and maybe we'll have a video to post when he gets his BIG gift!!!
And for kicks, giggles and to beat boredom...
Here's how we celebrated Jonah's FIRST birthday.
