Have you ever iced a watermelon?
This past Saturday, we celebrated Jonah’s first birthday, Glenn’s 29th birthday, and Father’s Day. It was a bit much and I was totally exhausted by the end of the day. I felt a little too busy and a little too bossy. However, overall, it was a fun success! I am very grateful for the TON of help I had in making it work.
So here are my 5 golden nuggets of advice for planning first birthdays (and subsequent birthdays really):
1) Plan the party for times between meals so that you don’t have to worry about cooking, etc
2) Don’t combine birthday parties
3) If you decide to do a double birthday, especially don’t also celebrate a Triple Father’s Day at the same time
4) If you do plan a Double-Birthday-Triple-Father’s-Day Celebration, definitely do not also (a) attend a portion of the Relay for Life the night before and (b) walk around downtown to watch dragon boat races in extremely hot and humid weather the morning of.
5) Finally, if you must do all of the above, never do it the day before your husband has to go on a two-week trip and when you have three loads of laundry to get done before he leaves (especially if his is one of the birthdays you are celebrating because he therefore shouldn’t have to do laundry and help out with party planning, set-up, clean-up etc).
Here are some of my favorite pics from the day:

The first party activity was a bus ride! Jonah LOVES watching the city bus drive by every half hour, so we thought it would be fun for us all to board the bus for a little field trip. We definitely enjoyed it.

Here is our Father's Day picture

Here is Jonah opening his new fuzzy yellow chair from Uncle Mark. He was way too thrilled about this gift.

After cake the birthday boys played a little game!
