Baby/Toddler Words - Isn't it intriguing?
It's so interesting to listen to children in those first years as they learn how to talk. Jonah has a TON of words and uses some sign language too. Lately he seems to be using two and three word sentences as well, and he's only 18-months old! He impressed the doctor at his last visit by saying "Mommy boat please" which sounds more like "Mommy bo peas."
It's really interesting how a lot of his vocabulary has changed over time. For instance, Uncle Bob's first name was "Bob" but eventually became "bum" and is now "ba". Aunt Tracy's name has made even more transitions, and I'm not even sure how to type some of them here for you. Right now, she's a solid "Kee kee". "Tree" has had a few too, but right now it's "gee" with a hard 'g'. Jonah first called his cousin Jedidiah "diah" but the last time we saw him, he called him "i-dah" instead... I wonder what he'll call him at Christmas??
Here's something CRAZY though. He can say "baby oil" perfectly (well, it sounds like "beebee oil" and that's pretty close!), but instead of saying "bread" he says "dee dee dah"?!?! What the?!?!? I'm pretty sure that "bread" is easier to say than "baby oil"... And BREAD IS NOT A THREE-SYLLABLE WORD!
Another humorous word comparison that makes me wonder why he can say some words properly and not others is banana. He says either "ya ya ya" or "ah ya ya" or "ya ya" BUT he can say "ball" and "nanny" and other 'b' and 'n' words.
Intriguing, isn't it?

so cute and funny! kids learning how to talk has got to be one of the most endearing and interesting things to happen in the life of a child and a parent. Its thrilling to hear your child become more and more verbal, develop their vocabulary, make sentences, etc. SO FUN!!!

I am so excited to seeyou guys on Tuesday. It is amazing how much they change and grow so quickly. I can't wait to hear all of Jonahs words. Bethany still has a hard time with double consonants. TR was really hard for a long time. Ben has lots of words too but his favorites are daddy, shoe, nana (banana) nano (another)and no. :0)
See you Tuesday!

I've missed hearing "Kee Kee" throughout the day! However, Miles is calling me something these days, but I still can't pinpoint it to Mom, Ma, Mamamamama, or Mama...once I even thought I heard him say Mommy. Pa is definitely for Grandpa, and one of those Ma sounds goes for Grandma too, but every now and then it sounds like he actually gets the Grand part in too. Funniest is when he points at himself and says, "Maaaaaaaah!" Do you think Jonah taught him how to say his name? You'll see a difference in Miles when you get home. We're looking forward to having you back and seeing the changes in Jonah too!

We are having so much fun with this right now too. Darcy considers anything that's round to be an apple. Whether it's really an apple, or an orange, or a Christmas tree ornament, everything gets the same word. When she asks for an apple, we don't know what to give her!
She's using her signs less now that she can communicate better with her words. We're still encouraging her to use both. She's always signed "please" but not "thank you", but it's the reverse when she's speaking.
This is a really fun stage.

So how cute it must be trying to figure it out. When kids look at ya and say something I always think of the movie look who's talking. One of the funniest movies I have ever seen.
Ya wonder if what we hear is really what they are thinking or saying in their heads.
I wonder what he will say for Alexis as you know most of my nieces and nephews say Lex.
As Tracy said there are big changes in Miles. As I am sure there are with Jonah.
See ya soon, safe travelling.

My 3 year old had us nearly in stitches when she exited the car and headed for the house recently while shouting "Wast one day-uh iz a wockin egg!" Not only was it funny that her l's and r's all come out as w's but she actually thinks the saying is "rockin egg" instead of "rotten egg".
