Last vomit of 2007
Jonah wasn't feeling well Sunday morning but he and I had to take Glenn to the airport around lunchtime. About 40 minutes into the drive to the airport, Glenn and I both knew that Jonah was eventually going to vomit, but there was nothing we could do about it.
Barely 5 minutes before dropping Glenn off, it happened. I tried to catch it with a blanket (from the front seat - did I mention I get car sick easily? This wasn't helping.) The blanket didn't help much. It landed on the blanket, his pants, his coat, his shirt and his carseat. Luckily, not on the car itself, nor on Glenn's bass case at Jonah's feet.
Bad news: No wipes in the car. No change of clothes for Jonah.
After a couple minutes, we finally managed to find a hotel where we could pull into the parking lot without paying for parking. We pulled up front and saw a mini-van. I suggested Glenn ask them for baby wipes and we scored! They donated all they had. And the Mom also later brought us a plastic bag for all the dirty stuff!
There was really nothing we could do for his pants, coat and shirt. I took the coat. We stuck tissue to the barfy clothes Jonah was still wearing to be a little more discreet about exactly what Glenn was carrying into the hotel.
I began attempting to get the chunks of barf off of his carseat using tissues and wipes. It wasn't good. I managed to get most of the chunks off, but it was all still wet and smelly. [Update: I totally disassembled the carseat once home and it came clean quite nicely and I even got it all back together right. I think.]
Inside, Glenn was wiping chunks off of Jonah's pants and shirt. Then he proceeded to purchase a $20 "Toronto Canada" souvenir shirt - like we needed that! On the plus side, we used some of Jonah's Christmas money to do that (how cruel is that?) and the shirt is actually kinda nice and will fit him next year and probably the year after too. Jonah also found a school bus souvenir and Glenn agreed to buy that too since he LOVES The Magic School Bus. It made Jonah feel better. Is it worth nearly the $10 we paid for it? Hmmm.... well, it DOES say "Toronto" on the roof!?
Jonah wore the barfy pants home, but I had another blanket covering his whole body this time, to protect him from the smell, and to prevent possible further damage.
And so, for us, 2007 was ushered out with one last vomit. I wonder how many we'll see in 2008?
p.s. In the end, all rockstars in this story arrived at the airport with time to spare.

It's horrible in the car, isn't it? We've had it a few times, and it wasn't motion sickness related.
Lucas did it on the Canada Day public transit shuttle bus last July! Luckily it was still parked and waiting to load up. We got him cleaned up, and Steve walked home with the dirty stuff in a bag, and I held a bag under Lucas' chin all the way home!

You make it sound so funny even though it wasn't! I would have been sick right along with Jonah! Life is an adventure and hope that 2008 will be filled with them for you and Glenn and Jonah!
