Big or Little?

I read this book to Jonah tonight. I don't love it. I actually changed the words a little as I read, because I think that certain things might make you FEEL little, but it doesn't mean you ARE little!

Anyway, after the story we talked a little bit about 'big' and 'little'. He decided on the following categories:

Daddy, Mommy, Grandpa, Grandma and Aunt Tracy are all big, as are elephants. Miles, Jonah, friends Emily & Olivia, and mice, are little. I think he gets it!

Anyway, then Jonah proceeded to tell me that when he's big he'll have hair in his armpits! But then he said he will shave it off like Daddy. OK, let me set the record straight here. Glenn shaves his neck, face and head, but NOT his armpits! But that reminds me, a few weeks ago Jonah told me Mommy's razor was for shaving Mommy's back! Oh dear! I don't shave my back! We have some clarifying to do as this boy grows up! In the meantime, I'm glad that most people aren't able to understand Jonah's language ("Jonish") to the degree that I do.

I asked Jonah if he is going to have a band like Daddy when he grows up. He said "yeah" so I asked him if he was going to play guitar or bass guitar, but as predicted, he said, "No. Drums!"

Yes, drumming is a huge obsession for Jonah right now. It may be getting out of hand. I've mentioned before that anthing stick-like becomes a drum stick and that anything else then can be a drum, right? Well today, Miles & I came downstairs to get Jonah out of bed from his nap. We went in and Jonah told us he was playing drums ("bumf"). The drum sticks? Two soothers. The drums? A couple of plush toys and a blankee. Silent drums? Very interesting. Then this afternoon's SMALL amount of playdough eventually became a mini-drum-kit. That one didn't make much noise either, but he was sure pleased!

  • The boy is OBSESSED!

I love how well you understand "Jonish". I would say that I can probably understand 75% of what he says, which is pretty good considering that I only see him once a week at most! His ability to communicate is awesome, and so sweet - even if he's saying that you use the razor to shave your back! It's so cool to see his little ideas coming together like that.

Jonah may be little, but his curiosity and capacity for learning new things is BIG! Beyond big! :)

  • Kids say the funniest things! I hope you can get those clarified before Jonah speak becomes clear for the world to hear!

I can't believe his verbal skills. I take that back. I can because Munchkin was talking in full sentences when she turned 2. Little Man is not quite there but he is the 2nd.. :)

It's funny that Jonah is so obsessed with the drums since Glenn plays bass. Funny kiddo!

  • I'm always amazed at Jonah's level of development ... surely he'll be a pro drummer by 8, published his first book by 10, and acquired a PhD by 12!

Will really miss you guys from September to November. Can't wait to see what Jonah is doing and saying by then!

  • I haven't read that book yet, but we have found ourselves changing words in books too. By Robert Munsch of all people. Maybe he's aimed at older kids?

They're not too bad by regular world standards ('stupid', & 'they don't have any brains in their heads'). Not something you want a 3yr old repeating though!

Laura has a bit of a drum thing occasionally, but not quite what Jonah has!

  • oh my have I created a monster by giving him his first drum set. I love it.

I guess that present was a big success, maybe by Christmas I will have to get him a bigger and better set. HEHEHEHEHe

    just kidding
