Jonah update: One year minus six weeks
This entry goes out to my family members and friends who love to get an update on Jonah's development. He is now 10.5 months old and is a very happy, curious, active, and smart little boy! He notices everything (like the sound of a bus driving past the house). Yes, Jonah will be a one-year-old in six weeks. It's so true what everybody says: "They grow up so fast." Nevertheless, "almost one" is such a fun age and we are enjoying the time as it flies!
Motor Development: Jonah is almost walking! Just this morning I saw him take a few steps on his own between furniture. He just needs to gain a little more confidence and he'll be off! He loves crawling, climbing stairs, and will jump if we tell him too (well, it looks more like bopping up and down). Jonah can pick up the tiniest little piece of anything off the floor now. Sometimes he hands the item to me, sometimes he eats it!? He also loves to put things into things and take things out of things. And he can clap.
Language Develoment: Jonah understands a LOT and says a little too! Using sign language, he says: help, all done, eat, more & water. He also tries to say the following words although most of them are missing the endings or just aren't quite right: apple, milk, bread, duck, dog, Mommy, Daddy, Grandpa, Bob, soother. Jonah is learning his body parts (for example, if we ask "where is your belly?" he will touch it) and animal sounds. And he will copy other words and noises too. And his babbling recently started to sound more like he's talking in another language
Jonah's likes/loves:
-BREAD
-Toro (Aunt Tracy's dog) and all other animals
-Phones, remote controls, wires, and other electronic devices
-Pushing things around (like laundry baskets)
-Throwing things
-Balls
-Flowers
-Opening and closing doors
-Playing peek-a-boo
-Being read to, looking at books, especially the lift-the-flap books (his most recent favorite book is a truck picture book - is that in the male DNA or what?)
-Being chased
-Banging his head on things or banging things on his head
Jonah's dislikes:
-VACCUUMING
-Some loud noises, usually if they are sudden
-Green beans
Jonah's tricks - the cute/funny things he does:
-We can say "Where is Daddy's belly? Slap it!" and he will!
-If we say "What's that smell?" he does a serious exaggerated sniff!
-He gives high fives, "E.T. phone home"s, and "head bonks"
-He hugs, kisses and cuddles stuffed animals and kisses pictures in books (usually bears and babies)
-Plays hide & seek with daddy (daddy hides)
-Knows what he wants and cries if he doesn't get it or if it's taken away
-Tries to sing and dance
-Likes to drink his bath water - from a cup, washcloth or straight from the tub
-Flushing the toilet
-We are currently working on a hand shake and a cheesey smile
Finally, Jonah operates on the following rule: "If it's in the bathroom, it should be thrown into the tub!"
OK, I could keep going but I will stop there!
