What's it worth?

What can $325 buy you? It could have bought Glenn an extra 1.5-2 days home next week, but alas, we did the "thrifty" thing and opted for the cheaper flight that has him leaving earlier and getting back later than necessary. Would you pay $325 to spend up to two extra days with family members that you see half of the time (on average) already?

It's weird to have to put dollar values on time like that, but it happens to us fairly often. Once, we paid a good solid 50 U.S. dollars to change one of Glenn's flights to get him home ONE day earlier. That was an expensive day I suppose... I sure hope we made the most of it!

Money and dollar values are so subjective though. For a very wealthy family, $325 could be next to nothing, and perhaps they would have bought that extra time without question. But think of how much that money is worth to someone in a third world country... Through World Vision, for $325 you can buy 13 chickens and 6.5 roosters that would supply up to 900 eggs per year for several hungry families...

What does $325 mean to you?

  • interesting... that's how much it costs to rent a room for a month in a slum hotel in my neighbourhood!
to thousands of people around me, $325 is worth their home...

  • $325 to me is a payment of some sort. . . i'll pick one!

Of course it can mean lots of other things. . I can squeeze a lot out of my dollars. . and they get spread all over the place. They're too hard earned to fritter them way.
