Growing up

After watching one of her parenting videos, I just checked out Barbara Coloroso's "Kids are Worth It: Giving Your Child the Gift of Inner Discipline" at the local library. I finally dug into it today and I'm feeling quite inspired. I hope to report on it later, but in the meantime I will share the three tenets she considers most useful in evaluating parenting techniques:
1) Kids are worth it
2) I will not treat a child in a way I myself would not want to be treated
3) If it works and leaves a child's and my own dignity intact, do it

Anyway, that's it for now, except I'll leave you with a thought-provoking quotation that she used:

"Who of us is mature enough for offspring before the offspring themselves arrive? The value of marriage is not that adults produce children but that children produce adults."
-Peter De Vries

I guess it's time for me to grow up.
